NGSS 101: An Introduction for those with little or no NGSS experience
|
Grade Level: K-12
Standards: NGSS
Presentation Type: Lecture/Discussion
Standards: NGSS
Presentation Type: Lecture/Discussion
Are you an NGSS novice looking for the best place to get started? Well, this is it.
In this workshop presented during the first session of the conference, participants will learn how to read and use the NGSS document to inform their instruction. NGSS is more than just a change in what content is taught at each grade level, it introduces a whole new set of engineering standards to the playing field and also a whole new way to teach science (inquiry-based, problem solving). You'll receive an overview of the three dimensions of NGSS: the disciplinary core ideas (DCI's), the science and engineering practices (SEP's), and the cross cutting concepts (CCC's). If that sounds overwhelming to you now, take comfort in the fact that you will understand exactly what this means by the end of the workshop, and you will be ready to tackle the rest of the conference with confidence, along with your new repertoire of acronyms.
