What do I want my students be able to do? versus What do I want my students to know? Students, especially those who attend urban schools, often miss the importance of a subject or lesson a teacher is trying to convey. As a result, teachers often resort to activities that are entertaining, but not necessarily effective in promoting education. Our team will discuss the much-needed teacher preparation towards the understanding that STEM/STEAM is a mindset and not a subject we teach. Every activity and project must be connected to performance expectations, skills, content-specific knowledge and learning standards. Most of the information that will be provided are student reflections on what students think work best for them, thus the presentation is called “STEM/STEAM – Straight from the Students.”
